The Man Who Listens to Horses” Book Review
Have you ever seen the popular television show “The Dog Whisperer”? It highlights a man who loves dogs, and has a unique ability to communicate with them, and train them as well. The book “The Man Who Listens to Horses” offers a similar story, about a man who is able to train and communicate with horses. Written by Monty Roberts, it showcases the internal workings of a horse’s mind. In this article I will be offering my humble opinion on this remarkable book, and offer what I think are some of the highlights that I think other readers might enjoy.
Monty Roberts is a remarkable man, with a story to tell. He grew up with an abusive father who not only abused him, but his horses as well. This formed a strong impression on the young Monty, and as he grew into a man he started to formulate thoughts on “there must be a better way” to communicate with these magnificent creatures.
The “join-up” technique is his better way of horse breaking and training. He outlines the process in this book. In a nutshell, here it is. To begin, you need a round pen and an unbroken horse of course. The handler then stands in the middle of the pen, and the unbroken horse is encouraged to run around the perimeter of the pen. The handler will keep steady eye contact on the horse, and will stand in a very authoritative and imposing way. During this stage the handler will be looking for signs that the horse no longer wants to get away, but wants to communicate. These three signs are:
The horse will gradually turn the ear that is closest to the handler towards him/her.
The horse will begin a process of chewing and licking.
The head of the horse will move closer to the ground as he runs around the pen.
Once the handler has determined the horse wishes to communicate, he will turn his back on the horse and start to move away. At this point the horse will usually move closer to the handler, permitting the handler to touch him/her. The next step in the process is to saddle, bridle, mount, and ride…
The book takes us on a journey into Robert’s life (in addition to the “join-up” technique). We learn of the various stages of his life and the events that have helped to shape his view of horses, and the techniques he has developed along the way. Some of the highlights are:
-His successful childhood riding career
-The author’s encounters with his father
-The development of his Thoroughbred racehorse facility
-Meeting Queen Elizabeth II of England
-Wild deer and the use of the “join-up” technique
-The author’s experiences with mustang horses
-Three of his favorite horses: Dually, Brownie, and Johnny Tivio
Anyone who loves horses and is looking for a humane way to communicate with them and train them should check out this book. Read it over and let the information wrap around your mind.
If you have read this far you obviously love horses. We do as well. We invite you to visit our web site on Horse Jewelry. You might find the perfect gift for that fellow Horse Lover.

Gay Travel Tips For France
Whether traveling to France on a trip across Europe, of visiting this popular country as your gay romantic destination, travelers will find magnificent beaches, alpine resorts, breathtaking countryside with quaint villages and medieval castles, world-renowned art collections, the glorious French Riviera and the truly unique, exceptional city of Paris.
People often do their gay vacations around Paris and its vibrant LGBT community, cultural and historical landmarks and accepting cosmopolitan environment, visitors will find that throughout France there is plenty to do and see, as well as many LGBT establishments and a welcoming atmosphere. Laws outlawing sodomy were abolished over 200 years ago and Frances LGBT community has enjoyed civil unions for the last decade. With legal protections in place and a general laissez-faire attitude that is common among the French, visitors will find that France provides an accepting, and pleasant destination for gay tours.
Visitors will find a number of community festivals and events taking place throughout the year in different parts of the country, including pride celebrations in many cities, a gay and lesbian film festival in Paris and Paris world-famous pride festival and parade. A gay vacation in Paris should also include a stop at the Legay Choc bakery in the Marais district, as well as the collection of male images at ArtMenParis and the female impersonation cabaret shows at LArtishow, Madame Arthur and Chez Michou. Paris nightlife often starts early with bars opening in the afternoon, followed by clubs opening around midnight and thumping the night away, often until noon.
Men interested in exploring the bawdier side of Paris gay vacations will find that cruising spots, bars with backrooms and sex clubs are easy to find and quite popular with visitors, as well as locals. Saunas, aka bathhouses, are also plentiful; however, they work a bit differently in France than they do in America or Canada. French saunas do not have private rooms, but rather cubicles that are set aside for a bit of privacy, and they are not 24-hour operations. Most of the activity takes place in the afternoon, rather than the evening or night, and Sunday afternoons are particularly popular.
While most gay travel destinations cater largely to men, women will find that Paris has a lively lesbian scene that includes everything from a lesbian walking group to a sex shop just for the girls. The Marais district is the center of LGBT life in Paris, and women will find a distinct Sapphic presence there, with bars and clubs that are located mostly at the south end. Ladies will also find several venues sprinkled throughout other neighborhoods, such as the Halles-Beaubourg, Palais Royal, Grands Boulevards and Saint Germain des Pres districts. There is also a bookshop in the Bastille-Republique district and one of the oldest lesbian bars in the city is located in the Palais Royal area.
Although Paris might be the most visited gay vacation destination in France, many other options are available throughout the country, including Avignon in Provence, Montpellier and Nice on the Mediterranian coast, Annecy in the Alps, Nantes in Brittany and the nude community beaches of Camargue. For those who hope to rub elbows with the rich and famous, Saint Tropez on the French Riviera should not be missed, while those looking for a romantic retreat might opt for an LGBT-owned B … B outside of Bourdeaux. With so many gay travel options to choose from, France is truly an ideal setting for gay romance travel.

Natural Weight Management Methods – The Current Situation
It started when I sat down with my wife Katie and we began to search for answers to our weight problems. We first identified what each of us hoped to gain and why being slimmer would give us that. Our aspirations turned out to be quite straightforward. For Katie, it was all about the kids – being able to get in and play with them. Equally, she aspired to feeling good about being un-dressed when we’re intimate together.
My main wish was to be able to purchase clothes that fit properly! Also, as our home is on 3 levels, I just longed to be able to reach the top floor and not feel my heart pounding violently!
Going through this process revealed that how we perceive ourselves is a key factor in how we actually look. Those of us who are obese tend to have a very low self-image. It’s a popular assumption that reducing weight will make everything in life good again. I want you to know how much I understand this thought process. Here are some observations…
Over time scientists have discovered that our sub conscious mind stores information, but can’t decipher whether that information is actually ‘real’. It therefore ‘programs’ the conscious element of our brain with anything that occupies it. Process that thought repeatedly, it emerges as its prevailing concept and thus it’s actual truth.
Reflect on that for a little while – have you been sabotaging your hopes of a slimmer self by constantly telling yourself that you are fat? We should tell our sub conscious what we want, not what we don’t want.
If we concentrate on the positive things we’ll enjoy when we’re slimmer, it’s easier to get through the tough times. And so each of us thought of activities and things that would be enhanced by being slimmer. We realised we wanted to do things like going for long walks, going to dances, being flirtatious, having great sex, swimming, having more fun, playing with the kids, beach games, cycling, confidence and excitement.
Then we envisioned ourselves in cool summer clothes, looking great as we enjoyed trips to the beach. Our confidence grew massively as others looked on with admiration. Everything was fantastic!
And so we went through the motions and the pounds came off. Though we’re not what you’d call thin, we’re a heck of a lot slimmer than we were. We both have 100 percent more energy and our new lifestyle brings laughter every day.

Meaning Of The Dragon Symbol
Dragon has always been a strange mythical creature which has been a part of life in eastern Asia. Originally it was taken from the Chinese folk lore. Ancient dragon has been described and given a form of serpent with a scaly body except for the fact that unlike a serpent it has four legs and each foot has five claws.
Similar to China Europe too has dragon like mythical creatures though their meaning and physical form is quite different especially European dragon has a negative meaning.
If you read through history you will find that Chinese dragon plays evil as well as positive role throughout the ancient history. The dragon symbol has perpetually represented positive power which is evident from all the folk tales and artistic expressions that we have seen from China.
Another interesting yet rarely known idea about the Chinese dragon is that it is often taken as the symbol of male which is yang in Chinese. There are a number of other beliefs that the Chinese dragon is meant to symbolize such as the bringer of rain and water in a country that is heavily dependant on agriculture. In general the Chinese had a tendency to ascribing various divine attributes to the dragon.
Did you know that Chinese dragon has a female counter part? Well it’s true and it is called phoenix. But the western people seem to presume that the Chinese have formally adopted Chinese dragon as official symbol. In fact this is totally incorrect.
It is true that the Chinese dragon figure was used to symbolize the emperor of China in the good old days. In fact throughout the Yuan Dynasty no civilian was even allowed to associate themselves with the symbol of the dragon. The Qing Dynasty however brought the Chinese dragon symbol back into action as it started appearing on the national flag during those times.
China has deliberately and desperately tried to disassociate itself from the dragon symbol due to the negative political connotations associated with it. Because the image of the dragon had a threatening war like perception in the eyes of the west the Chinese wanted to replace that image with a softer symbol. The alternate was the giant panda which is now taken as the emblem of China.
Chinese Dragon plays an important role in giving ethnic identity to Chinese people even today when some of them feel that they are the descendants of the Dragon and they truly have faith in the powerful symbol. The identification of a nation with an animal is a trend which started in’70s when the Mongols felt that they have characteristics of wolf and Tibetans felt that they are descendants of monkeys.
The Chinese people still use the Chinese Dragon symbol a good deal even if it is not for religious purpose. The Chinese Dragon today has a special use in China entirely for decoration. The use of Dragon on T-shirts or posters or tattoos or advertisement is a common sight throughout China.
Chinese dragon symbols are a firmly embedded part of Chinese culture. To read more on Chinese alphabet symbols please follow the hyperlinks.

How You Can Play Ponticello
A couple days ago I fielded a question asking how to play ponticello easily and with a great sound. Now, in case you didn’t know this, ponticello is a ’special effect’ in a violinists bag of tricks. It is produced when the bow tracks so close to the bridge that the string produces many higher frequencies not part of the normal overtone series. The result is a kind of eerie, windy color to the sound.
Now, there are two issues that make the execution of this effect a little more challenging than drawing a pure tone.
First, it is critical that the bow track right next to the bridge without deviation. You’ll notice that when you draw a normal tone, the bow can wander back and forth between bridge and fingerboard to some extent without negatively impacting the sound – one likes to avoid this, but it can happen. As soon as the bow wanders from the bridge in ponticello, however, the effect disappears immediately.
The second issue is control. Because the bow is not fully ‘in the string,’ as we say, there is a tendency for the arm to tighten as a way of compensating for this perceived lack of contact.
Sometimes, in the case of the bow suddenly passing OVER the bridge – and this happens to everyone at one time or another – this tightening can lead to an alarming result.
The question, then, is how to practice this technique so it becomes secure and well behaved.
First thing I would do is some slow, quiet, long bows ponticello to get in touch with the purity of my bow stroke, from tip to frog. Once you’ve gotten a sense of the bow placement, you can begin playing some scales and arpeggios using the entire length of the bow; very smooth, no spaces between the notes. At first you may want to play single notes per bow. As the constancy of the bow stroke increases, however, I suggest you slur notes together until reaching eight or twelve to a stroke.
Gradually you will also increase the weight on the string – relaxed arm weight.
Now, ponticello is also often called for in combination with tremolo, a fast, repeated, and unmeasured stroking of one note. And to practice this variant I recommend arriving at tremolo by starting at a slow rate of speed using just the forearm. From there gradually increase the speed and narrow the travel of the bow. As you stroke more rapidly begin to add arm weight, if, that is, you need to perform the effect in forte.
The secret to this is the purity of your detach, really. Understand that I do not use my wrist – unless I’m feeling quite lazy – to produce my tremolo; simply the forearm. The elbow joint must be absolutely free of restriction.
The bottom line is, Ponticello really forces you to separate the vertical weight of the arm from the relaxed horizontal movements of the arm. It requires absolute freedom in the joints of the right arm. And these together make it an excellent tool for sharpening the efficiency and purity of your bow arm.

The Sinister Cult Of Freemasonry – Is It A Religion?
Often when the topic of Freemasons comes up some people are under the impression that they are some type of religious cult. This perhaps has become a way of thinking because of the reputation they have of being a secret fraternity. Some would say they almost seem to have mysticism about them.
When confronted about their being a cult most of the Freemasons will take offence to this and feel they are being treated unjustly. So what is it that is leading some to believe that this organization is a cover-up for some evasive cult?
To begin with, they refer to the craft of masonry. Individuals are wary of the word craft. This word is used constantly to describe some types of works of art, so it would seem unfair to attach it as a label of being a cult because it is being used by an organization such as the Freemasons. It is being perceived by anti Freemasons as referring to witchcraft.
Then the next argument raised is why they perform rituals and what are they and for what purpose? The general response from those who are members give the explanation that these rituals are a way of telling a story. They are done to get a meaning across such as love and goodness overpowering evil for example. These rituals play a vital role in the Freemasonry and specific ones are only carried out by those that have attained specific degrees. Degrees in the Freemasonry are like promotion up the ranks.
Then there comes the concerns that they are a highly secretive organization. The Freemasons promote that their records are open to the public. They do however admit that their rituals are a secret meant only for the members.
So when you look at the words craft, rituals and secrecy all on their own accord they really are innocent sounding words and one would question as to why they would be linked to the thought of a cult. It?s when you put all these words together as a whole entity that disturbs people because this link is often the foundation for many cults.
Another argument raised by pro Freemasons is the good they do in their community, but in many cases even, that seems somewhat secret. The ideals that they speak of and what they say their fraternity is based on would make them a quite noble organization if they are to be taken at their word.
Much of the anti Freemason arguments could quite easily be put to rest by removing some of the secrecy shrouding the Freemasonry. This could be done by way of opening up the ritual to a public audience. It would stand to reason that if these rituals were for the betterment of all humanity, then shouldn?t the story they say it portrays be shared with all. If humanity were, the key issue one would think they would want to spread the word. Why should the high morals that the Freemasons stand on be restricted to their organization only.

How Masonic Lodges Are Formed – Freemason Lodges Degrees
Freemasonry is by far not a new organization or religious group. Its been around for many many years although having slight variation in names according to the country and state they are related to. It’s an organization that has always had a mysticism attached to it as the participants do not openly discuss the intricate workings of their organization.
They started off as a simple group of Masons who were responsible for the spectacular building of the old abbeys and castles that were famous for their grandeur during the 17th century. They formed their own guilds and called themselves Operative Masons which was fitting being as to the type of work them were in. Then there was a reduction in the building of cathedrals which played a large part in their work. This led the Operative Masons to open their doors for membership for non Masons. They were given the name of Speculative or Accepted Masons. The groups became mostly made of the Accepted Mason and their groups were officially known as Lodges. There were several groups or Lodges and in 1717 there were four of these groups that held regular meetings in London England. They amalgamated and formed the first Grand Lodge which was sphere headed by one Grandmaster. This was the beginning of the Freemasonry as it stands today. Not only has this organization withstood the passing of time they have grown where they now boast of having around 150 of these Grand Lodges throughout the world. Their total membership is in excess of four million Masons.
Their organization is built on the concept of all men are brothers and come under the rule of a Supreme Being, although they do not promote themselves as a religious group. They serve no one denomination but expect their members to serve the God of their choice according to their personal beliefs. Although there are Grand Masters for each lodge there is no Supreme Master that rule over the whole body of lodges. In order for a lodge to be considered a true freemasonry lodge it must adhere to the code that has been set for the mason. Most often one Grand Master will preside over several lodges that reside within a specified jurisdiction.
Their general function is somewhat like any mens club. In fact some have been known to refer to the Freemasonry as a fraternity. The men have regular meetings as a form of companionship. They encourage strong moral ethics. The mysticism comes into play with their well-known secrecy. They are known to have rituals that center on the purpose of life and where morals take the lead. The whole basis of this organization is self-improvement center on brotherly love, and truth. They must put every effort into applying this to their daily lives. They put heavy emphasis on charitable acts.
Membership is not granted easily. They do not advertise for new members but that does not mean they are not approachable. Any prospective member must be at least’ years of age and possess the expected character and reputation that all Freemasonry members do. They must be morally strong and believe in a higher being. This group is so adamant about their requirement they actually investigate the character of anyone being considered for membership. When one looks upon Freemasonry it depicts a very high standard way of life. Having a membership in a Lodge means that a learning experience will begin. Not only does a mason have to talk morally but must live what they believe. Patriotism is essential by respecting authority figures. He must also possess a willingness to stay active in his Lodge and participate in whatever endeavors that particular lodge takes on.

Chile For The Gay Traveler
Chile is a wonderfully unique place for gay travel that allow visitors to ski the Andes, explore volcanoes, relax on pristine beaches, and hit the clubs in Santiagos gay district all in one day. The vast and varied landscape and landmarks of Chile include arid deserts, the Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, the statues of Easter Island, the Elqui Valley of La Serena (long rumored to be associated with extraterrestrial activity), the Mirador de Chepu Penguin Colony, and old-world churches and architecture throughout the country.
Because of Chiles unique blend of historic, natural and cultural attractions, visitors have many options for planning gay vacations, including skiing or snowboarding trips to Andes resorts, Vina del Mar family beach vacations, wine tasting tours, pilgrimages to important Catholic sites and churches, exploring the wilds of Patagonia and learning of ancient island cultures, or urban adventures in Chiles capital, Santiago.
As a country that has been deeply influenced by both the Catholic Church and the military, Chile would certainly not be described as a bastion of gay rights; however, as a whole, the country is slowly becoming more progressive and is beginning to become more accepting of the LGBT community. Gay life in Chile centers largely around Santiago, which is where singles, couples and families on a gay vacation will find the most welcoming atmosphere and the highest concentration of gay-friendly and gay-owned establishments. Santiagos gay community is primarily found in the Barrio Bellavista, which is a trendy neighborhood with charming shops, cafs and eateries and is also home to most of Santiagos bathhouses, gay bars and gay clubs. Although it is not likely that you will see rainbow flags hanging for rooftops or same-sex couples walking through the streets hand in hand, it is quite common to find gay magazines openly displayed in newsstands and couples sipping coffee at cosmopolitan sidewalk cafs.
The gay-owned Spanish restaurant, Capricho, is a popular first stop for a night out in Bellavista, often followed by drinks a one of the local gay bars and dancing into the early hours of the morning at one of Santiagos gay clubs. Options for clubbing range from discos much like those found in most large cities to risqu clubs with live sex shows. It is common to begin a night out with dinner around 9 or 10pm, followed by a lively night of escapades that may not end until the sun is coming up. There are also several bathhouses ” often called saunas ” in Santiago, including a more upscale option catering to professionals. As in the U.S., HIV is a concern and precautions should be taken to ensure a safe, enjoyable gay vacation in Chile.
Santiagos central location in this long, narrow country makes it an ideal choice as a home base for exploring all that Chile has to offer. Because it is also the most welcoming location for gay vacations, Santiago is a popular choice for gay vacations. When planning a gay vacation to Chile, working with a travel agency well-versed in gay travel in this region will assist you in designing a memorable vacation that is safe, fun-filled and meets your travel needs whether you are traveling as a group of single friends, a couple or a family.
