Magical Changes through Minerals

Did you know that over 75% of our population is deficient in magnesium? Do you ever hear anyone talking about this mineral? Rarely. Happiness Through Nutrition?

I’m a high-energy “burn the candle at both ends” kind of person.  That’s really easy to do these days.  When you look around you see energy drinks, coffee stands, and a whirlwind of activity.  Why do we do all of this, and why do we find it so hard to slow down?

I think one of the primary reasons that we keep ourselves “revved” is that we don’t feel good when we try to relax.  Have you ever taken on a big project, and when the project is over you either collapse or get sick?  When you work on overdrive you cannot be aware of your primal physical needs, nor your emotional needs.

Another reason we move at lightning speed is that we don’t want to think about ourselves.  We deplete ourselves emotionally, and don’t focus so much on fostering our own happiness.   What happens though is that we also deplete our physical body.  When the physical is depleted there is no room for the natural ‘high’ that comes from a happy emotional or esteem state. 

How many of the these “deadly sins” have you indulged in over time:  fast food, caffeine, energy drinks, alcohol, smoking, processed foods, fried foods, shall I go on?  No, that’s good enough for now.  Our bodies are amazing machines, able to continue operating even when we fuel it with foods and beverages that take more energy and nutrients to process than they provide us for our health and wellbeing.  Our bodies may continue to operate, but over time they lose their ability to thrive

Adding nutrition to your day, in one form or another, is a great way to introduce more happiness into your life.  If your digestive tract has been compromised by a poor diet it may not have the ability to absorb the good stuff. 

There are more ways that we give to ourselves, other than eating or drinking.  We breath – learning how to breath from the bottom up, filling the lungs, holding the air, and exhaling with intent can help you relax and release toxins.  Cleansing the skin is another way we can assist our body, for your skin does breath.  Your skin is a two-way street, and you can also absorb some nutrients into the body.  One of my favorite treatments is a combination of beauty and nutrition –  I use a transdermal magnesium bath salt.  Here’s are a few of the benefits:  the magnesium is in a form that is easily absorbed and used in the body, and magnesium is one of our vital electrolytes that we are also deficient in; the bath is a detox as well, allowing toxins to be released through the skin; a bath is soothing and relaxing, giving you a chance to unwind and clear your mind.   Overall, it’s a great body-mind-spirit opportunity to give to yourself. 

When the body is provided the nutrients it needs there is more room, or a more conducive environment for positive thoughts and happiness. Happiness through nutrition?  It may not be the cure-all, but it sure makes the job a lot easier.
